Molecular microbiology
The AGC laboratory offers a microorganism detection service using DNA technology. Molecular tests differ from immunological and biochemical tests due to their high specificity, sensitivity and direct detection of nucleic acid.
It is important to point out that molecular testing can certainly be used as a test for immunological tests, because only in this way it is possible to determine the presence and amount of nucleic acids of microorganisms. The advantage of real-time PCR detection of the presence of DNA microorganisms over biochemical detection methods is that real-time PCR can quantify the DNA of the pathogen corresponding to the real amount of microorganisms in the patient and thus monitor disease progression.
Services in this area are recommended to patients who suspect certain infections due to correct and as soon as possible diagnosis and treatment.

Skrining i genetska tipizacija HPV-a
Molecular analysis of HPV. The test has a sensitivity of up to 10 copies of the virus and is able to genotype 14 high-risk and 2 low-risk HPV types with the ability to detect multiple infections with incorporated internal control to avoid cross-contamination. The test can be done from a cervical swab, rectal swab or urethral swab in men.
Chlamydia trachomatis/Mycoplasma genitalium/ Ureaplasma
This microorganisms are associated with various genitourinary infections in humans and are the cause of many diseases. It is transmitted through sexual contact and the infection is categorized into gonococcal urethritis or non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU) depending on the presence or absence of Neisseria gonorrhoeae bacteria. When a patient has NGU infection, Chlamydia trachomatis is detected in 30 to 40% of men. In addition to this bacterium, this infection can be caused by mycoplasmas and ureaplasmas in Chlamydia-negative patients.
This test can detect Mycoplasma genitalium / hominis from clinical specimens using Real-time PCR. The test is designed for in vitro diagnosis and enables qualitative detection.
Citomegalovirus
The presence of cytomegalovirus is detected on a high-sensitivity real-time PCR instrument. The analysis can be performed from serum, plasma or even from amniotic fluid.
